Restaurant Anglais
The Bistrot Bougignon is one of the hidden jewels of Beaune. It lies in the pedestrian-only rue Monge, seemingly little different to other bistros in that area which cater for the general tourist trade. But it is much more than that. Not only does it offer an excellent array of wines by the glass which can be consumed with or without a light meal, but has an extensive and truly excellent wine list mainly focussing on Premier Cru and Villages wines, but extending to Grand Crus from Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-St-Denis, Vougeot and even Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. In the Cotes du Beaune, the list is even more extensive, with many of the best known producers listed and, for example, three vintages of Comtes Lafon Montrachet (‘04, ‘03, ‘02) which are simply unprocurable in many parts of the world. The food is in classic bistro style, the service always friendly.
